Food Standards Scotland (FSS) would welcome your comments on the Draft The Animal Feed (Basic Safety Standards) (Scotland) Regulations 2018 (see AnnexB).

The purpose of the draft Scottish Statutory Instrument is to;

  1. To prohibit the intentional addition of radioactive substances in the production of animal feedingstuffs.
  2. To prohibit the import or export of animal feedingstuffs to which radioactive substances have, during production, been intentionally added
  3. To refer to existing enforcement mechanisms providing appropriate sanctions for breach of the Regulations and in order to;

transpose the Council Directive 2013/59/EURATOM laying down basic safety standards for protection against the dangers arising from exposure to ionising radiation and repealing Directives 89/618/Euratom, 90/641/Euratom, 96/29/Euratom, 97/43/Euratom and 2003/122/Euratom in so far as it relates to animal feedingstuffs, specifically Article 21 of the Council Directive 2013/59/EURATOM on prohibition of practices concerning the deliberate addition of radioactive substances in the production of animal feedingstuffs, and the prohibition of the import or export of such products.
