Food Standards Scotland Strategy 2021 - 2026

Closed 21 Dec 2020

Overview

Food Standards Scotland (FSS) would like your views on our new strategy for 2021-26: Protecting Scotland in a Changing Food Landscape

FSS is Scotland was established in 2015 as Scotland’s public sector food body. We have a unique role in Government, working independently of Ministers and industry, to provide advice which is impartial, and based on robust science and data. Our remit covers the whole food chain, from farm to fork - including both the food we consume and animal feed, which can impact on public health as well as animal health and welfare. We also play an important role in supporting Scottish Government to develop policies aimed at improving Scotland’s diet and reducing the levels of overweight and obesity.

Since publishing our first Strategy in 2016, we have delivered an extensive programme of work to deliver improvements to the systems in place for protecting the food and animal feed chain in Scotland, and to strengthen the evidence base and capabilities we will need to support the interests of Scottish consumers into the future.

Our new strategy for 2021-26 outlines our overarching vision and mission and aims to take account of the changing social, political and environmental factors which are affecting our food environment, and the challenges faced by those who are responsible for protecting it.

Why your views matter

We would like feedback on our proposed new strategy from everyone who has an interest in our work and the wider food environment in Scotland. This includes those working in the food and feed industry, Government, public health, science and academia, as well as consumers.

Your input will be invaluable in helping us to ensure FSS’s new strategy fully reflects the work we need to do to protect the Scottish food chain and improve dietary health in Scotland, acting in the best interests of everyone in society.
